WPXI interviewed DJ Bonics over the controversy created over there being a 'Wiz Khalifa Day' recently named in Pittsburgh.
Whenver a story is based around 'people are upset and commenting on Facebook about it', well, that's basically everything on Facebook. People will eventually hate and have something bad to say on a post about adorable puppies, it's the nature of social media. Just is.
Yes, it is 100% true that people serving our country...doctors...firefighters...police officers...public servants ALL deserve such a declaration. No argument with that. However, that's on City Council. They decide these things. Wiz Khalifa didn't ask for his own day, City Council gave it to him for how he has represent the city of Pittsburgh.
Also, people are taking this like Wiz Khalifa is the first ever person in the city of Pittsburgh to be given his own 'day' in the city. While it is a tremendous honor, Wiz isn't the first one. Pittsburgh Dad has been making You Tube videos for a little over a year about the city. Pittsburgh Dad has his own day in Pittsburgh. Sharon Needles, who won season 4 of the reality show 'Rupaul's Drag Race' has her own day in Pittsburgh. Back in 2002, some sort of super hero character named 'Burgh Man' was given his own day in Pittsburgh.
Basically, we aren't against ANYONE getting their own day in the city of Pittsburgh whether it's Wiz Khalifa, someone who has fought for our country and lost their life that was from the area, a drag queen, a police officer who has been on the force for over 40 years....in the end, each represents Pittsburgh in their own unique way, as cheesy as that may sound, it's the truth.
