The ratings for the premiere of American Idol on Wednesday night were down.

The premiere was its lowest-rated regular season premiere ever. Idol still had 17.8 million viewers watching but it was down 19 percent from last year’s opener which was the previous lowest rated record holder.

Idol will also not be the #1 watched show in its premiere week for the first time. On Tuesday NCIS had 22.9 million viewers.
